When I went into labor with Cam in the wee hours of a Friday night into Saturday morning, naturally I texted Amy the news as soon as morning arrived. Right away she wanted to know, should I head into the city yet? Amy is my oldest friend from Arizona and lives right outside New York City in New Jersey. I told her to hold off for the time being, we hadn’t even called the doctor yet. Good thing she waited since he didn’t arrive until 5 pm on Sunday night! That’s a whole other story! Amy drove into the city first thing Sunday when we expected his arrival at any time.
Hours and hours later, he was finally born at nearly 5 pm… after spending an hour in recovery, the move into my own room was further delayed by a “shift change” on the nursing station. I didn’t make it into a suitable area for visitors until after visiting hours officially ended. We begged and begged the hospital to allow at least our families to come up and see the baby, which naturally included Amy. She waited all day to meet Cam and only got to visit for a short while before the hospital staff forced everyone out but she was the first visitor to arrive the next morning to see us. And thankfully for me, she brought disposable toothbrushes, face wipes and some treats for me – things only a girlfriend would think of!
Since he arrived, she has been “Aunt Amy” to Cam and we are both so excited that in only a couple short months she’s brining her own little one into the world. Much to my dismay, she and Brad decided to be surprised with the gender of Baby Kinder (I don’t know how they can stand to wait! ha ha!) so we threw a yellow and gray, chevron and sunflower gender neutral baby shower for Amy on Saturday at their new home. I’m so excited for Amy to join me on this crazy adventure of motherhood… and for Cam to have a new friend of course!
I’ll be there with the toothbrushes and the goodies when this one arrives too… so excited!!
Congrats you guys!
